The Samaritan woman
Tamar
In this etching of Tamar being brought to trial for execution, her swollen stomach is visible. She is not hiding her pregnancy in shame as one might expect in this situation. Tamar’s countenance is steadfast as she shows Judah’s signet ring and staff. She is only a step away from the flames of the pyre in the bottom right yet stands strong. Tamar knows she is not the guilty party and soon the surrounding crowd of accusers will recognize that Judah has acted wickedly.
