Glossary:

  • hagiography: a specific form of biography that is most often used to tell the story of martyrs and saints, highlighting and sometimes idolizing their devotion, fidelity and sacrifice.
  • passion: story of martyrdom
  • titulus church: originally a house church, the tituli became the first legal churches in Rome. They are often preserved under present church buildings
  • vestal virgin: young women who were chosen to serve as priestesses in an ancient Roman cult that worshiped the goddess, Vesta
