Re-read Her Story

The 2026 Visual Museum Symposium’s theme is “Re-read Her Story.” We are invited to revisit familiar stories of women in scripture, guided by the insights of biblical scholars focused on women in the text. This collection has been curated to visually accompany and support the women and subjects highlighted during the event.

The keynote speaker, Dr. Jennifer Powell McNutt, is the author of The Mary We Forgot: What the Apostle to the Apostles Teaches the Church Today. The Visual Museums’ Mary Magdalene collection supplements her teaching with a visual record.

Two of the founding board members of the Visual Museum, Dr. Lynn Cohick and Dr. Sandra Glahn, are speaking on the Samaritan Woman and Tamar. Both of these women’s stories have been maligned throughout the history of the church. What can we learn about them when we re-read their accounts?

Contained within the 2026 Symposium Collection are exhibits featuring other topics explored at the event, including pilgrimage, justice and mercy in “bitter waters”, Rhoda and slave girls, women in the written metanarrative of scripture, Helena of Constantinople, and Mary, the mother of Jesus.
