These altar carvings, commisioned by an 15th century archbishop in Spain, tell Thecla's story. The fourth panel from the left depicts Thecla saved from being burned at the stake, just one attempt on her life during her martyr trials. The fifth panel on the end shows Thecla sitting in a window listening to the Apostle Paul's message.
The altarpiece taken as an entire narrative, depicts women and men being empowered by the Holy Spirit (middle panel) to stand as witness to Jesus in faithful martrydom.
